Mission: Ignite powered by Computers For Children, Inc.

Mission: Ignite has been fighting for digital equity in Western New York for 25 years. Its activity has increased substantially in the post-COVID-19 world. The organization provides youth, older adults, and families throughout the high-need communities of Western New York with the computers and training necessary to help close the digital divide. Mission: Ignite refurbishes computers that would otherwise go into landfills and rebuilds them for use by disadvantaged youth, families, and organizations. Additionally, the organization delivers engaging training and programs on digital literacy, technology skill-building, and STEAM principles.

Mission: Ignite works to see Western New York included in all of the positive benefits of digital adoption and works to bring digital equity to all members of our community, especially those who could benefit the most from using digital technologies. Mission: Ignite's Tech 360 program sees the establishment of Digital Navigators who help their home communities set and reach their digital inclusion and equity goals, giving these communities the tools to address their own needs and interests.

COVID-19 has highlighted and exacerbated the effects of the digital divide—the gap between those with access to digital tools including hardware, software, and the internet—yet these challenges have existed ever since the dawn of technology. Low-income children, older adults, and families have faced the brunt of this gap.
