Action. Access. ALICE.
For families living paycheck to paycheck, stocking up on food and supplies before a storm is not necessarily simple. High rent, rising food costs, and lack of access to transportation are real systemic challenges faced by up to 40% of community members every day.
These families make tough choices, and even the smallest hiccup or surprise expense can have significant consequences. This reality becomes especially clear during moments of community crisis.
At United Way, we work every day to close the health, education, and financial divides that threaten the well-being of our community. Our goal is to break the cycle of hardship and build a strong, equitable Erie County—one that is resilient in times of emergency and beyond.
That is why, in the wake of the Buffalo Blizzard of 2022, the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County established the Community Resilience Fund. This fund takes a proactive stance in building resilient communities that can withstand future challenges. We create programs and initiatives that enhance disaster preparedness, promote financial stability, and foster equitable access to resources.
Most recently, the Community Resilience Fund was used to put together over 5,000 emergency care kits. These kits include items such as first aid kits, flashlights, foldable water jugs, mylar blankets, safety whistles, and an emergency radio. They ensure that low-income families are better prepared when extreme weather hits. All proceeds from GIVE 716 Day will be directed to the Community Resilience Fund.
Your donation not only supports immediate efforts but also helps lay the groundwork for a brighter and more secure future. By contributing to the Community Resilience Fund, you become a vital part of a community that cares, uplifts, and supports one another in times of need.
Together, we can create a more resilient community where no one is left behind.
We bring people, organizations and resources together to create systemic community change. We envision an equitable, thriving and united community achieved through collaborative leadership.
