Lothlorien Therapeutic Riding Center (LTRC) was established in 1983 to provide horsemanship and horseback riding opportunities for individuals of all ages with cognitive, physical, emotional and learning disabilities. Since 1986, Lothlorien has owned and operated our present facility which is located just outside of the Village of East Aurora, New York.
Our missions is to assist individuals to develop their highest potential through therapeutically based equine activities. The goal of our program is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for individuals to experience the benefits of horseback riding and horsemanship skills. The facilities at LTRC are designed to accommodate riders with disabilities. Through the use of special mounting ramps, a wide variety of adaptive equipment and the cooperation of our trusted, loyal and specially-trained horses, LTRC has been able to meet the needs of the population we serve while maintaining strict safety guidelines. Programs at LTRC are conducted by trained instructors and over 200 trained volunteers dedicated to providing the highest quality programs for individuals.
In January of 2020, Lothlorien became an affiliate of People Inc. to help expand their reach and mission of assisting people to develop their highest potential through therapeutically-based equine activities. The services will continue through trained volunteer facilitators and instructors who translate time spent with a horse into a meaningful, healing relationship that enhances overall health. Working together since 2005, this new partnership allows Lothlorien and People Inc. to provide the best possible outcomes for people receiving support and the staff who assist them. This affiliation provides an opportunity for both organizations to pool resources to meet growing demands, enhance collaborative power and expand services for a broader geographic reach. At the same time, it lets the Lothlorien name and legacy to continue within the community, while maintaining the intimate culture that people value from this important resource.
Surrounded by trees in a secluded, tranquil setting, the ten acre LTRC center is located just outside the Village of East Aurora in upstate New York. The facility consists of seven pastures, a 13-stall barn, a large outdoor sand riding arena and the 170’x80’ indoor Angel Arena, built in 2015. Angel Arena is fully heated and insulated! Families and caregivers are welcome to watch lessons in the viewing area and there is an administrative office and on-site housing for the barn manager. The Children’s Guild Foundation Sensory Trail meanders through the woods on the property, giving riders a chance to experience sensory elements during their lesson.
